The festivity celebrations continued with Long Island Gujarati Cultural Society (LIGCS) celebrating its Annual Navratri (Garba/Raas) with Indian singer and Gujarati Movie Star Parth Oza & group.
Over 1000 attendees plus over 100 kids under 10 included all age groups and maxed the full capacity of the venue. The dance floor was filled with kids, youth, seniors dressed in colorful traditional outfits , dancing their hearts out until past midnight.The celebrations included traditional garba and traditional worship (Aarti) of Goddess Bhavani. Fresh made sweet delicacies, fruits and dry fruits were offered as celebration offering (Prasad) to all attendees. A team of dedicated and hard working volunteers under the leadership of President Bakul Matalia, courteously welcomed and handled all attendees.
LIGCS Committee of Bhadresh Acharya (Vice President), Vijay Shah (V.P. Programs), Paresh Raval (Secretary), Prakash Shah (Joint Secretary), Suresh Udeshi (Treasurer), Flora Parekh (Public Relations Officer) and the Executive Committee of Amrish Kachhy, Govind Akruwala, Gunjan Matalia, Jayesh Shah, Ketan Upadhyaya, Prakash Patel, Varsha Kinariwala along with Advisory Board members Dr. Manibhai Patel, Mafatbhai Patel, Tribhovanbhai Patel and a bunch of volunteers strived for days to plan this extremely organized event.
The event was an excellent portray of the rich and varied culture of traditional dance of gujarat – Raas / Garba. The beautiful thing was the fact that most guests were participating on the dance floor and everyone was enjoying. Many guests stayed till end, and participated the most enjoyable, energetic and traditional dance called “Sannedo”. Parth Oza and and his group were unique and charged with full energy, and kept almost everyone on their feet, dancing with dandia. For certain time in the beginning, when there were massive amount of guests ,at same time ,to check in and to enter in the Gym, everyone cooperated fully with discipline and courtesy and were gracefully handled by a group of dedicated LIGCS committe members & volunteers. Smiling faces, traiditonal dresses, excitement and bhaktibhav were seen on all faces.
